My Favorite Flight Bag

Most of you probably know the problem: What is the best way to organize your cockpit? And, closely connected, how do I transport everything from home to my car to ops to the airplane and back? That I am not alone with this question becomes clear when you look at the average selection of flight bags at your preferred aviation supply dealer. Bags, cases, tools in all shapes and sizes, with tons of specialized pockets and bells and whistles. And I have to admit, I also tried various forms, tools and gadgets to find the optimum.

iWeb is History

Some of you might have heard – well, at least the Apple users among you probably heard – iWeb is almost history, there doesn’t seem to be any plan to keep it alive. MobileMe is definitely history – Apple will retire it in fall and replace it with iCloud, their new service. Problem – there will be no replacement for the existing web page hosting service. Für diejenigen unter Euch, die einen vernünftigen Rechner besitzen (a.k.a. Apple Mac), hier ein kleines Programm, das Euch bei der Vorbereitung zur Navigationsprüfung helfen kann:

E6B_Light.dmg.

Die Installation ist Mac-typisch einfach: Die Image-Datei öffnen und die darin enthaltene Datei in das eigene Programm-Verzeichnis ziehen. De-Installation ebenfalls Mac-typisch – die Datei einfach in den Mülleimer ziehen. Es sind keine weiteren Einträge auf dem Rechner enthalten. Continue reading

Wenn man ein wenig die Augen aufhält und der englischen Sprache mächtig ist, dann gibt es für uns Luftfahrtbegeisterte eine ganze Menge interessanter Literatur im Internet. Einige der besten Links möchte ich hier kurz vorstellen.

Koppeln ist was für Theoretiker

… oder so ähnlich hört man immer wieder. Das Problem ist jedem von uns bekannt: Man gibt sich Mühe, aber irgendwie will es nicht aufgehen. Die Wirklichkeit (die Flugdurchführung) stimmt nicht mit dem Plan (Flugvorbereitung) überein.

Und schon hat jedermann die richtigen Erklärungen zur Hand, zum Beispiel, dass der angegebene Wind sich sowieso nicht genau vorhersagen lasse, oder dass man doch so genau gar nicht fliegen könne. Continue reading
